BEK Cooperative Membership

You Are More Than a Customer. You Are an Owner.

A cooperative is a business owned by the people it serves. BEK has no outside shareholders. Our members own the cooperative, elect its leaders, and share in its successes. That's the difference between BEK and other internet or phone providers. When you become a member, you gain a voice in how your cooperative runs and a stake in what it earns.

What It Means to Be a Member

Members in our five districts elect a Board of Directors, vote at the Annual Meeting, and share in the cooperative's success through capital credits.

If you live in a BEK cooperative district and have qualifying service, you can become a member-owner.

Membership Has Its Rewards

A Reliable Connection

Member investment built one of the most advanced fiber-optic networks in North Dakota, and it keeps that network growing.

A Vote That Counts

Every member has one vote. You help elect the Board of Directors and decide cooperative business at the Annual Meeting.

Local Decisions

Your directors are your neighbors. Decisions about your service are made right here in our cooperative's rural communities, by the people who live here.

A Share of the Margins

BEK operates for the benefit of its members. Margins are returned to members over time through capital credits, based on the services you use.

Investment in Your Community

Through grants, scholarships and sponsorships, BEK supports the schools, nonprofits, and local projects that keep our towns strong.

Who Can Become a Member?

You qualify for membership if you:

  • Live or operate a business in one of BEK's five cooperative districts, AND
  • Subscribe to a qualifying BEK service: internet or phone, including BEK Connect business phone service, AND
  • Have a two-year qualifying service agreement, or at least two years of qualifying service.
  • Signing up for service doesn't make you a member on its own. You'll need to complete the membership form to finalize your membership.

Your Neighbors, Your Board of Directors

BEK's directors are members, just like you. They farm, ranch, run businesses and raise families in the communities BEK serves. Members in five districts elect nine directors, who meet every month to guide the cooperative's growth and make sure rural North Dakotans have quality communications services at a reasonable cost.

Meet the nine member-elected directors who guide BEK Communications Cooperative and represent five districts across North Dakota.
